Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry Alvin Tan announced plans to redevelop key tourism precincts in Singapore, such as Sentosa and Orchard Road, to further boost the country's appeal to international visitors.

Tan emphasized the importance of maintaining attractiveness to international tourists through high-quality tourism experiences to help local businesses navigate uncertainties and challenges.

He highlighted efforts to expand into new segments and markets that can drive increased tourism revenue, along with collaborating with the industry to create more engaging and unique visitor experiences.

Significant progress has been made in 2025 with events like Lady Gaga's concert and the introduction of major attractions. The country anticipates international visitor arrivals to rise to between 17 and 18 million this year, up from 16.9 million in 2025, generating around $31 to $32.5 billion in tourism receipts.

Tan stressed the importance of enhancing Singapore's offerings to visitors by focusing on improving the country's stage, people, and overall experience.

The redevelopment efforts will concentrate on key areas like Sentosa, with the initiation of the first phase of the Greater Sentosa Master Plan already underway. This plan involves the creation of a new transport hub to connect Sentosa and Brani, alongside the replacement of the Sentosa Express to enhance connectivity.

Plans also include revitalizing beaches at Sentosa, implementing coastal protection measures, and introducing new landmarks like the Imbiah Canopy to enhance the visitor experience.

Moreover, the refresh of Orchard Road will encompass projects like the transformation of 37 Emerald Hill into a mixed-use development and the completion of the Grange Road Event Space to host international and local performances.

The development of cruise infrastructure aims to solidify Singapore's position as a premier cruise hub in Asia, with enhanced capacity at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre to accommodate more cruise lines.

Woodlands Gateway District

Aside from traditional tourist areas, Singapore is also working on the development of the Woodlands Gateway district near the upcoming RTS Link station, as highlighted by Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry Gan Siow Huang.

This mixed-use district, spanning up to 35 hectares, will feature a transport hub connected to the RTS Link and Woodlands North MRT stations, as well as various commercial and lifestyle amenities to cater to commuters, residents, and employees in the Woodlands North region.

Given its strategic location near the RTS Link, the district will also offer flexible industrial spaces to accommodate companies with manufacturing facilities in Johor and regional headquarters in Singapore.

The first phase of development is projected to be completed by around 2030, with subsequent phases to be rolled out based on business demand and requirements.
